Senior Dam Engineer

The Role:

These are changing and exciting times in the dam engineering industry with recent revisions to legislation and new approaches to assessing reservoir safety. Stillwater Associates is a growing business which is developing in step with these changes. To continue our growth, we are searching for new staff including a Senior Dam Engineer.

Established in 2008, our consultancy now offers a full reservoir safety service from inspection and advice through to planning, design, contract management and construction supervision. We work for a wide range of clients including water companies, local and national government, the Environment Agency, charities and other private estates in the UK and overseas. We also partner with other consultancies, both large and small, where our combined skills and widespread geographical locations add value to clients.

We’d love to hear from you if working for a rapidly expanding close knit business appeals to you.

Qualifications, Technical & Personal Skills:

We are seeking a senior engineer and a leader with strong technical competence and experience in dams and reservoir engineering with the following desirable attributes:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering and Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution such as the ICE.
  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant dams and reservoirs legislation, guidance, design guides / codes and current health & safety legislation.
  • Extensive knowledge of reservoir safety design with technical skills including detailed design, structural / hydraulic / geotechnical design, site investigations, site supervision and monitoring.
  • Good project management skills; you will manage your own project programmes and budgets and be responsible for all aspects of the project including managing project staff and liaising with the client and associated stakeholders.
  • Confident with the preparation of engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, and contract documents. You will be responsible for all aspects of reservoir engineering projects, from concept through the design stages to the completion of construction.
  • Able to assist our All Reservoirs Panel Engineers with all aspects of their work and support other technical staff members with their projects, including mentoring of younger engineers.
  • Membership of the Supervising Engineer Panel is preferred with aspirations to become an All Reservoirs Panel Engineer. If you’re not a Supervising Engineer yet, don’t worry, we’ll help you get there. As a Supervising Engineer you will manage your own portfolio of reservoirs.
  • Since we are a small and growing business you will need to demonstrate that you have good interpersonal skills, are able to engage positively with your colleagues, and will build strong and lasting relationships with our clients.
  • Able to assist with the preparation of fee proposals and bid documentation.
  • We would expect you to be self-motivated and highly flexible, ready to respond and adapt to new challenges, and able to bring new and better solutions to deliver great outcomes for our clients. You will also need to be flexible with time and be prepared to work away within the UK, or abroad, for short assignments.

Training and Development:

We will provide all the necessary training, in-house and through relevant external courses, to enable you to flourish as an engineer and reach your full potential. If you have the desire to become a Supervising Engineer and then ultimately an All Reservoirs Panel Engineer, then we will do everything we can to help you achieve this goal. If you have a specialist skill set that you want to develop then we will explore this with you and build our business around your skills.

Our offer:

We promise to ‘immerse’ our team in everything related to Reservoir Safety. As a small business we provide a relaxed, flexible, working environment and we actively encourage staff to identify growth areas and projects which develop their personal skills and interests.
